Powerful Devotionals for Married Couples

Rekindle the Romance: Date Your Spouse

The further we get into marriage, the less time we tend to spend with each other. I’m almost 4 years into my marriage and realize that we do not spend as much time together as we should. This devotional allows us to focus on the importance of dating. It’s not only for the beginning stages of the relationship but also helpful if you’ve been together for 20 or 50 years. Dating gives us a chance to get away from the stresses of work, children, and life, in general. It also helped to bring the spark that was missing in our marriage. Most importantly, dating allows us to have fun and remember why we fell in love! This devotional discusses these topics and more.

Bulletproof Marriages

Growing up, I did not have an example of a healthy marriage to look up to. So, Bulletproof Marriages provide ways for you to have a marriage that can stand the test of time. It focuses on three different topics: a filter on their mouth, a filter on their eyes, and a filter on their hearts. Let’s just say I needed to read the section on filter on their mouth. Lol!! I have gotten a lot better, but there is always room for improvement. This devotional is worth reading again for reminders.

Us Against the World: Our Secrets to Love, Marriage, and Family

This devotional was written by David and Tamela Mann that is geared towards the couple. If you are not familiar with the two (where have you been? Lol!), Tamela Mann is a gospel singer who also acted with David on several of Tyler Perry’s films and series like Meet the Browns. I also admire the transparency they exhibit in their marriage. They share the secrets of having a successful marriage which includes topics such as communication and having a blended family. in God’s way. Plus I love in each lesson that they each give their perspective on how their family operates.

Relationship Goals

This is a shorter version of “Relationship Goals”, the book by Pastor Michael Todd of the Transformation Church. This devotional actually surprised me, as I thought it would focus more on relationships that lead to marriage. However, he mainly discusses the importance of having an intimate relationship with God. Then, he mentions how it’s necessary to love yourself before trying to seek a relationship with the opposite sex. And I love it!!! It gives a new perspective on relationship goals than what’s normally seen on social media.

Our Keys to Healthier Communication in Marriage

Here’s another devotional by David and Tamala Mann. I really enjoyed the previous one. When I saw that they had a detailed devotional on communication, I had to read it. They give great tips on how to fight fair, which means only discussing the issue at hand and not bringing up previous offenses. I think that some of us are guilty of doing this, including me. They also mentioned ways to encourage and lift up your spouse, instead of tearing them down with words. You will have a great laugh once you read their story that involves their argument over a tuna sandwich. I’m sure that sparked your curiosity to want to read. This devotional is perfect for the couple, as each lesson has exercises for both spouses to complete.

7 Guided Prayers for My Husband

This is my personal favorite. In a marriage, it is very important to pray for and over your husband with intention and purpose. If you do not know where to start, this is the devotional for you. It guides you on how to pray over your husband on matters such as having godly mentors and friends, unity, and mutual respect. It is a seven day lesson plan. However, I still read the devotional repeatedly, if needed.

“With all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.” Ephesians 4:2-3

Do you read any devotionals that are dedicated to your marriage? Which do you recommend?

I just started “Our Keys to Healthier Communication in Marriage ” devotional. Love the tuna sandwich story! I completed “Us Against the World ” devotional. I loved it. A good devotional is “Wives Who Win: How to Win in Your Marriage God’s Way”.
