Mommy and Me Outfits: Baby Dedication

Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.

Proverbs 22:6

I can’t believe Arielle is 2 months old!! Time has certainly flown by. I am big on creating memories with my new family. As a mother who is a follower of Christ, it was important to have Arielle involved in the baby dedication at our home church. For those who are not familiar with a baby dedication, it is a wonderful moment in which parents make a public statement of faith to raise their child under God’s grace and wisdom. Dedicating our child to God shows that we recognize our child as a gift from God and we are dedicating ourselves to being a godly example to our child. Baby dedication does not secure salvation, but it is a symbolic moment of entrusting the child’s life to God’s will. At our church, a baby dedication is done quarterly a year. The current one just happened to be on Mother’s Day. So I thought it would be fitting to have our first mommy and me outfit for the occasion. I will be sharing details on our looks and what happens at a baby dedication.

Mommy and Me Outfits: Baby Dedication

What Happens at a Baby Dedication?

At our home church, we have to attend a workshop before the baby dedication actually takes place. I personally love that they have a workshop done. It gives us a good idea on how to raise our daughter through the Word of God. For instance, we learned our roles as mother and father. We also found ways to incorporate the Bible into Arielle’s life as early as her age now. We were told that music is a great way to include God’s Word for babies. It was very helpful and inspiring to teach and train our child into the child of God that He desires. It doesn’t stop there! They also have workshops on salvation and baptism, “the talk,” and rites of passage. I love that our church truly has a heart for children as they invest into our future generation of disciples. We’re so excited to expose Ari to a youth ministry that will help prepare her for her walk with God.

The baby dedication workshop happened the Sunday before Mother’s Day. Once we completed the workshop, then we were able to attend the baby dedication during church service the following Sunday. During church service, they took out a time to have all immediate families that participated in the workshop to dedicate their child to the Lord. This consists of introducing our family and child to the congregation. Then we are followed with a prayer from the ministers. Even though it takes a village to raise a child, it is especially important for the church to play a role. To make the occasion special, we invited our closest family members and Arielle’s godparents. We took many pictures to celebrate the big day for Arielle and me.

What We Wore?

I’m not aware of a dress code for a baby dedication but I thought it would be appropriate for Arielle to wear white. White is symbolic for purity, innocence, and goodness, which describes her at the moment. Our mommy and me outfit of choice were dresses. I thought she would look adorable in a white dress. Also, I do not own a white dress and wanted to start a collection, depending on the occasion. Plus, white looks great on my dark complexion. Arielle’s dress is from you guess it, Amazon.

I waited until the last minute but what I found was perfect. It was a set that included a sleeveless dress, bodysuit, headband, and shoes. The shoes were too big so she wore white socks instead. She was absolutely adorable in this look. The bodysuit was long sleeve, which was helpful given that the weather was slightly cooler than usual. The top of the dress was lace while bottom had a full tulle skirt and a flower on the belted waist. The headband also matched the belt of her dress.

I wanted to find something that was easy to throw on while still looking effortlessly chic. I thought a flowy dress would be perfect given that I’m still carrying weight from my pregnancy. Plus we were eating out afterwards to celebrate Mother’s Day so I wanted to chow down without feeling uncomfortable in a fitted number. This dress fit me like perfection!!! It can be worn like regular sleeves or off the shoulder. I’m a sucker for anything that is off the shoulder. The length is not too long for my petite frame (I’m 5’2″). And for my postpartum mamas, you can still order the dress in your original size if you have a bit more belly. Did I mention that it is from Amazon that costs under $40?? It’s also very similar to the famous Nap Dress minus the $125 price tag.

Overall, my first Mother’s Day was a wonderful family affair. I also look forward to our journey of raising Arielle in a Christ centered household while having the support of my wonderful family and friends.

Both of you looked great in your white. We had a great time. The baby dedication was great. It’s never too early to introduce your child to our God, the Creator .
